2023 Review
JOURNEYS OF THE DARTMOOR LEAGUE BANNER 2023
The Dartmoor League Banner was first spotted at Royal North Devon Golf Course
in February 2023. This was the first event of the year - Captains/0rganisers Day.
Very well organised by Shaun and Danny from Tavistock and well supported and
thoroughly enjoyed by all. Winning club was Woodbury Park with 93 points
followed by Exeter with 89.
The Banner then moved on to the Spring Meeting at Churston. This really gets the
season going with 3 pairs from each club - 2 best stableford scores to count for
the trophy and then there is the best pairs trophy to remember Glenn Richards.
Winners of the Spring Trophy was Exeter (84 points) and the runners up Bovey
Castle (82 points).
Moving on, the Banner was hoisted at Exeter for the 4 ball team event. Such a
fiercely contested and popular day. Home team were the winners with Boringdon
Park in 2nd place.
Then, a new event - Captains Invitational. No handicap limit - and we welcomed
7 club professionals to the event which was hosted by Teign Valley.
Winning club was Dartmouth, chased by Honiton. Best Professional was Oliver
Greenslade from Downes Crediton
Off on its travels to Wrangaton for the Mixed Dartmoor League where 3 mixed
pairs play Greensomes Stableford for the trophy. The home club were victorious
with a convincing win over Okehampton as runners up.
The final of the knock out cup at Thurlestone was a fantastic autumn fixture for
the banner. Wonderful contest between Honiton and Exeter when Honiton
claimed victory.
The final journey of the year for the banner was at Okehampton for the Dartmoor
Challenge Shield. Such a popular end of season event with an incredibly tight
finish. The trophy went to the home club Okehampton who scored 114 points.
putting Tavistock into 2nd place with 113 points. Fantastic finish to the year.
The Banner now seeks direction....
